Motor Detector Devices – Concept and Mechanism

A motion detector device has gained immense popularity in today’s time. Available in many styles and colors, such devices can be used both indoors and outdoors. When used indoors, a motion detector helps detect the presence as well as the absence of a person and automatically activates when someone is present in the area in which it is installed. It switches off automatically in the absence of a person, thereby saving energy consumption costs. Not only can such advanced security devices be used to protect one’s personal property but are also installed at many commercial sites to provide a security cover.

A motion detector works on the principle of passive infrared technology. The infrared channels present in the device detect any motion in the environment or any change in the energy levels present in an area. Such changes or motion are detected by the sensors present in the device which then relay the message to a centrally controlled security alarm and warns of any potential and unwanted threat. Human beings emit infrared energy that is captured by the device’s sensors and relayed to the security alarm.

Types of Motion Detector Devices

Broadly, motion detector devices can be classified into two major categories:

1. Motion detector cameras: A motion sensor camera can be installed anywhere in one’s household like at the entrance of the door, passageway, driveways et al. Such cameras are equipped to detect any changes in the energy levels emitted by a person or in case a motion is observed. The moment the sensors detect an energy change or motion, the camera gets activated which in turn alerts the security alarm. Such cameras, when connected to a computer screen or TV can be used to relay information for future display with the help of a DVD or VCR.

2. Motion detector sensor lights: These sensor lights are gaining increasing importance due to their intelligent operation. In places where there its dark and when a security camera is unable to take clear images, a motion detector light device is extremely useful. Such a device automatically switches the lights on when a change in the energy levels or a motion is observed. The lights glow to illuminate the dark passages and thus helps prevent unnecessary intrusions. The motoion detector lights are also useful for dark areas that as they automatically get illuminated when any change is detected, thereby helping one avoid fumbling in the dark to find the way.
